Beatitudes for Disabled People....

Beatitudes for Disabled People....
by Marjorie Chappell.

Blessed are you that never bids us "hurry up" and more blessed
are you that do not snatch our tasks from our hands to do them
for us, for often we need time rather than help.

Blessed are you who take time to listen to defective speech,
for you help us to know that if we persevere, we can be understood.

Blessed are you who walk with us in public places and ignore the
stares of strangers, for in your companionship we find havens of
relaxation.

Blessed are you who stand beside us as we enter new ventures,
for our failures will be outweighed by times we surprise ourselves
and you.

Blessed are you who ask for our help, for our greatest need is
to be needed.

Blessed are you when by all these things you assure us that the
thing that makes us individuals is not our peculiar muscles,
nor our wounded nervous system,
but is the God-given self that no infirmity can confine.

Blessed are those who realize that I am human and don't expect me
to be saintly just because I am disabled.

Blessed are those who pick things up without being asked.

Blessed are those who understand that sometimes I am weak and
not just lazy.

Blessed are those who forget my disability of the body and see the
shape of my soul.

Blessed are those who see me as a whole person, unique and complete,
and not as a "half" and one of God's mistakes.

Blessed are those who love me just as I am without wondering
what I might have been like.

Blessed are my friends on whom I depend,
for they are the substance and joy of my life!!!!

- To all people who attend the AMO PDM... thank you

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION (Day 2)

Virtue of the day: prudence

Prudence from the Latin word “prudentia” is classically considered to be a virtue, and indeed, one of the Cardinal Virtues. The word comes from Old French prudence (13th century), from Latin “prudentia “meaning “foresight, sagacity," contraction of providentia "foresight". It is often associated with Wisdom, Insight, and Knowledge. In this case, the virtue is the ability to judge between virtuous and vicious actions, not only in a general sense, but with regard to appropriate actions at a given time and place. Although prudence itself does not perform any actions, and is concerned solely with knowledge, all virtues had to be regulated by it. Distinguishing when acts are courageous, as opposed to reckless or cowardly, for instance, was an act of prudence. This is why it is classified as a "cardinal" which is to say "pivotal" virtue.

Hayyy… a lot of meaning… okay! To simplify, prudence for me is like this "Do not exterminate yourself". It’s a quite rule that would be considered a moral rule because it is morally wrong to exterminate yourself, am I right? It does serve your best interest not to.

P.S: please connect it… I forgot to tell you that prudence is also an intellectual and moral virtue…’’,)

New career!

Will you believe me if I say that I know how to draw or use the pencil as to express what is in my mind? Maybe not because I didn’t paste/post yet the example but I promise that I will post it…sometimes.

Wait and relax…

Drawing is not my passion but I know how to do it. Ahh ahh! Maybe your thinking that I only know how to, of course all of us know how to draw but there are only some who has the gift to make an “real drawing” (hahahaha)

I discover this talent during my elementary years. My teacher asked me to draw in the black board (or I prefer to call it green board because it’s green) anyway, my teacher asked me to draw our house, and without further ado I stand and draw our simple house and all people inside the classroom was pleased including my hmmm during that years. My teacher told me that I should enrich my skills and join some arts contest, but being a natural low profile I did not take her advised.

After all the years past by, I realize that the having the gift like know how to draw should used because its came from God, and I know that He has His reason why He give me such a gift.

So wait and see…

These days

This past days I’m been busy of so much preparation of the incoming events like dance practice for the Provincial Day this coming Saturday, for the Immaculate Conception Play, for the incoming caroling and so on and so forth, I tell you honesty I wanted to quit already.

Wait do I write it correct? Quit?

No, no, no, it’s a big mistake if I quit because of these pressures. For all the years past by into my life I have a lot of opportunity that I decided to quit on. One of these is in my high school years. During my high school I didn’t realize that if I will not take seriously my subjects I will find it difficult during college and yet that’s exactly what happens. I finding it difficult to coup up to my subjects but I decided to face my consequences because I choose to be like this, I didn’t mean that I’m regretting what I did during my high school, actually I’m thankful because it helps me to realize the importance of what I’m doing in my present, will affect my future and also I learn one great lesson that everything happen connected.

Now, quit? Yes I will quit…not to the pressures!

Immaculate Conception (day 1)

Virtue of the day: Purity?

Wow! Horrible, how could that be for a man is weak? But is it hard to do? Anyway at least for it is.
Purity is one of the greatest virtues that our mother Mary gave to us or shows us in order to inspire us to lived life in pure.

I mean it, that I lived the life tainted, because I just a man and as a man I also have weaknesses. I am a sinner, genuine sinner, but do I have hope to be like our mother? I think there is, if Mary the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ lived the life pure without sin, I can also. Mary is a human being and she is not goddess but she lived with virtues, so do I also?

P.S : Kindly pray for!

Connecting to the Filipino Youth

I hope we all know Don Bosco, I hope so. Don Bosco said “Loved what the young love”

In connecting with the youth Don Bosco is very precise as he said it, But the Question is, how to love what the young love? In our culture and country, how do we express our loved to our youth?

In our life, we should love what the young love. Love the young in a sense that you cannot but to see and be with the young people, especially here in our country were most of our population or the dominant are young.

Loving what the young love is not easy, so, let me share with you some hint on how to do it. Some of this is my reflection in our immersion.

First, I hope we have talents, in music, sports and anything that you think it is your talent or you can call a talent even it is not. Of course, young people have also their own talents. Now, use your talent in order to connect to the young. I remember when I was in Don Bosco Pugad, a little boy named Mike love to play Ping-Pong so what I deed is I learned how to loved Ping-Pong even I am not much good about it, but at least I try. We play and suddenly I didn’t expect or noticed that by playing with him we become close to each other. He shares to me about his life, dreams and so on.

So, that’s the first, using the talent in order to connect to the young

Second, be with the young always. Being with the young is like saying you liked to be with them, they are especial to you and you loved them. Fr. Pablo tells us, my companions in Pugad (James, Daniel and Francis), that some boys are shy, so what our group need to do is to first approach them or to be with them. In deed Fr. Pablo is right, when I observed some of the boys playing billiards they felt, I hope so, that they are important to me, that I’m giving my time to them. They ask me to play with them, but I refuse because I observed how they play and they are good as Efren “bata”, so I don’t what to be in trouble.

So again, that’s the second, be with the young always

The third and the last is to love what the young love, you must also loved first yourself. Why? because liked the Latin saying says “Nemo dat qoud non habit” meaning “you cannot give what you don’t have” is like “you cannot loved the young love if you don’t know how to love yourself.”

To conclude this simple reflection, I would like to say; let us continue to be a lover of youth. Let us not forget this learning that I share to you; you can use this whenever you go and whatever path you take. Just remember that loving the young express in sharing or using your talent, be with them always and love yourself. Let us not also disappoint our teacher and father, Don Bosco who says “loved what the young love”

you know what?

I realized this morning it has been almost a month since I last posted. It has been a little busy, so blogging took a back seat.

Much of last week and so fort was spent studying, doing requirements (a lot) and preparation for activities.

But! Because of this…I learn one of the greatest values. Time is precious and you cannot return it if you missed it.

Foresight…

Twilight Zone (The Placebo Effect)

Cast & Crew:

Writer: Brent V. Friedman
Director: Jerry Levine
Story: Rebecca Swanson

Star: Forest Whitaker (Host)
Guest Star: Sydney Tamiia Poitier (Dr. Leslie Coburn), Jeffrey Combs (Harry Raditch), Michael David Simms (Dr. Marks), Jessica Amlee (Carrie), Gina Stockdale (Dying Woman), Donna Yamamoto (Receptionist), Paul Batten (State Health Doctor), Stellina Rusich (Rhonda Harrington)

Synopsis:

A chronic hypochondriac, Harry Raditch, visits his doctor, Dr. Coburn, when he begins suffering from a real blood disorder and strange skin protrusions. When Coburn can't place the symptoms, Harry, a bookdealer, reveals that his disease is from a story in a science fiction book. Then others start coming in with the same symptoms, starting with Harry's housekeeper and then Dr. Coburn herself. The disease spreads quickly and Coburn soon believes Harry created the effect mentally so she tries to convince Harry that a meteor strike contains a rare element that can destroy the virus and give him the placebo injection. When Harry believes himself ^cured^ everyone else is cured as well. But Harry obsesses about the meteor strike, which he thinks would cause the extinction of the human race in an ice age . . . and Harry makes that come true too.

Host: (opening narration) Dr. Leslie Coburn has always treated Harry with a placebo, an imaginary cure for his imaginary illnesses. But what will this young doctor do when her patient contracts a real disease? A disease found only in The Twilight Zone.

Host: (closing narration) Dr. Leslie Coburn had a brilliant idea using an imaginary cure for an imaginary illness. But like the virus itself, Harry took her cure to heart and he made it real. A testament to the amazing powers of the mind, in The Twilight Zone.

Reflection:

Sometimes we believe that what we think is true, perhaps sometimes it's true but not all times. The episode of the twilight zone entitled “the Placebo Effect” proves to us that what we think are sometimes is in our mind only and never ever exist.

In my logic subject last semester our professor says that our mind is ordained to know the truth, but why is it that sometimes we commit mistakes in our decision? Where is the truth there?

Perhaps it is not our mind, it is our judgments that we choose to believe in.

“We should not pretend to understand the world only by the intellect. The judgment of the intellect is only part of the truth.”

Super Inday

Dahil sa tindi ng kahirapan sa probinsya,
namasukan si Inday bilang katulong sa Maynila.
Habang ini-interview ng amo...

Amo: Kelangan namin ng katulong para mag ayos ng
bahay, magluto, maglaba, magplantsa, mamalengke,
at magbantay ng mga bata. Kaya mo ba ang lahat ng
ito?

Inday: I believe that my trained skills and
expertise in management with the use of standard
tools, and my discipline and experience will
contribute significantly to the value of the
work that you want, my creativity, productivity
and work-efficiency and the high quality of
outcomes I can offer will boost the work
progress.

Amo: [nosebleed]

Nakaraan ang dalawang araw, umuwi ang amo,
nakitang me bukol si junior.

Amo: Bakit me bukol si junior?

Inday: Compromising safety with useless
aesthetics, the not-so-well engineered
architectural design of our kitchen lavatory
affected the boy's cranium with a slight boil at
the left temple near the auditory organ.

Amo: [nosebleed ulit]

Kinagabihan, habang naghahapunan.

Amo: Bakit maalat ang ulam?

Inday: The consistency was fine. But you see, it
seems that the increased amount of sodium
chloride (NaCl) affected the taste drastically
and those actions are irreversible. I do
apologize.

Amo: [nosebleed na naman]

Donya: Bakit tuwing paguwi ko, nadadatnan kitang
nanunuod ng tv?!

Inday: Because I don't want you to see me doing
absolutely nothing.

Donya: [hinimatay]

Kinabukasan, sinamahan ni Inday si junior sa
principal's office dahil di makapunta ang amo at
donya.

Principal: Sinuntok ni junior ang kanyang
kaklase.

Inday: It's absurd! It was never a fact that he
will inflict a fight. I can only imagine how you
handle schizophrenic kids on this educational
institution. Revise your policies because they
suck!

Principal: [nag resign]

Talumpati

Simple lesson...

do you want to become pro-guitarist?

Ok...the first thing to do is to know more about your instrument, especially the parts of it. Because if not, it is like you just grab food, but not knowing how it taste or buy a car, and not knowing that the car has 4 wheels!

try to memorize this! this is the basic parts of the standard guitar.

Inocent mind

A nun asked her class to write notes to God. Here are some of them.

Dear God,
I didn't think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset You made on Tuesday. That was cool.

Dear God,
Instead of letting people die and having to make new ones, why don't You just keep the ones You have?

Dear God,
Maybe Cain and Abel would not have killed each other so much if they had their own rooms. That's what my Mom did for me and my brother.

Dear God,
If You watch me in church on Sunday, I'll show You my new shoes.

Dear God,
I bet it is hard for You to love everybody in the whole world. There are only 4 people in our family and I'm having a hard time loving all them.

Dear God,
In school they told us what You do. Who does it when You're on vacation?

Dear God,
Are You really invisible or is it just a trick?

Dear God,
Is it true my father won't go to Heaven if he uses his bowling words in the house?

Dear God,
Did You mean for the giraffe to look like that or was it an accident?

Dear God,
Who draws the lines around the countries?

Dear God,
I went to this wedding and they kissed right in the church. Is that OK?

Dear God,
Did You really mean "do unto others as they do unto you?" Because if You did, then I'm going to get my brother good.

Dear God,
Thank You for the baby brother, but what I prayed for was a puppy.

Dear God,
Please send me a pony. I never asked for anything before. You can look it up.

Dear God,
You don't have to worry about me; I always look both ways.

Dear God,
I think about You sometimes, even when I'm not praying.

Dear God,
Of all the people who work for You I like Noah and David the best.

Dear God,
My brother told me about being born, but it doesn't sound right. They're just kidding, aren't they?

Dear God,
I would like to live 900 years just like the guy in the Bible.

Dear God,
We read that Thomas Edison made light. But in Sunday school they said You did it. So I bet he stole Your idea.

What do you think?

Basketball

It was Saturday last week when we had exhibition games to the SHMI seminary. We were eight seminarians including me (your honor) plus 3 Salesians. It was enjoyable not only because of the Italian food, but also because of the companionship and sportsmanship of the other seminarians.

This is not a Gospel sharing in seminary, but I was destructed by their theme “one goal, one heart, one vocation” from this I realize that the real purpose of having an exhibition game against the SHMI seminary is to be “one” with them. One in a way that we chose the same path, that is to serve God and one in a sense that from a little time we had we become one community.

Real mission land

Where is the real mission land?

Anyone who knows? Can you help me, pls… but before that I would just give some of my insight that provoked me to ask a kind of stupid question like this.

I was then in high school when my classmate wrote batch prophesies. All of my batchmates were laughing at me, I don’t know, I don’t care about them, but finding the genuine reason why they laugh at me, perhaps because during the times that my name was about to be called and after a long negative introduction. She said “Wilhelm is now a missionary”, wow! That’s the only reaction that I remember, I was also shock.

Becoming a missionary, why not?

(Suddenly after a long pause)…yeah! It’s really a big challenge to become a missionary, why not? It can be started right now, at this moment by doing your duties extra ordinarily well, also you don’t need to go to a far away land to be a missionary, just look at the people besides you and the people who need most of your help. There’s a saying that “Every people is a missionary and every soul is a mission land”, it’s true but yet the question is, how? Perhaps by the word “love” it may be answer and there may be no question about it. So for these, my challenge is the question that bothered me always, “how to love?”

Akeelah and The Bee

Quotes:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same."

Sleep now, sleep

Sleep now, sleep
Let your night be at rest
Put aside the problems
Set it to the new day

Sleep now, sleep
To the colorful bed sheet
To the pillow and its softness
To the dark night

Sleep now, sleep
Let your mind be at peace
And your body, in stillness
Fly to the world of fantasy

Last Kiss

The happiness turns into sadness
Nevertheless, I feel no less
I left my bag and something else
I am about to live in a clueless world

A figure of a woman appeared
I see tears streaming from her eyes
Whispering words echoing in my ears
“Don’t leave me, please” as she appeals

Upon the scenery of wretchedness
As if a flower lost its freshness
She gives me the final blessing:
The hug and the last kiss

Night…Death

It’s already afternoon of my life
I must prepare my things
Get ready for what will happen
Be brave and tranquil

I heard their cry
I am soaked by their tears
I see only darkness
Oh no! It’s my new beginning…

So I may eulogize you with a yell

I am weak in this world

In the breath of Satan
So please refresh me once again.

The baby grew up in the golden place...

In the Golden Place somewhere
In the Philippines
A man was born
It was summer so the fields turn into gold.

”Oh my Baby!” A mother cried
The baby was stepping in a quaggy
Mud playing with his toys
That the father gave him

In the petite, but vivacious house
Near the sanguine people
With the simple lifestyle, but happy
Near a wide wonderful field

There the Baby grew up and now a Man
He has an abstruse attitude
Because he wants to stand on His own.

Original Poem

Achievers

Fly high until you die
Spread your wings for you to fly
High above all is what you desire
Even though they didn't want.

Fly high for you to know
That someday will last it all
Last it all, you'll never know
Regretful will be yours.

Like eagles are you
Trying to reach the sky
Fighting the heat of the sun
That no one can survive.

Don’t achieve everything
Someone owns that piece
Give chances to the lowly
So they may taste the paradise.

Original Poem

Discriminated

Your color is dark as night
Because of the sunshine might
Your race, lower than mice
Nothing knew that you’re nice.

Your power has no right
Like the candle without light
You are slaves in their heel,
Low class, but you feel.

Original Poem

A Happy Death

The night is dark
No stars that shine
I close my eyes to rest
To rest for the rest of my years

A wail that wakes me up
Unfamiliar to the will for me
How I wish to go back then
For me to yell “Good Bye”

No chance indeed
So I accept it
I go around for me to see
To see who cares for me

A wonderful darkness I see
As if I am in the depth of the sea
I feel like a bird that flies
Flies until I rich the skies

All silent was the mood
Until a choir of Angels sang
The darkness turns into white
White that blinds me

No idea of what will happen
Only trust in someone else
Someone who loves and cares
Someone who welcomes me.

Original Poem

Lightning

Your flash remains in my eyes
Like the memories of love in this isle
Pure
, powerful and mighty are you

Like the One who created you.
